Hotel Melby Downtown Melbourne, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

The room was nice enough and comfortable. Not sure why they have bare concrete columns with chunks of plaster running through the rooms? Service was good, but be aware of valet only parking at a significant price. So some hidden fees. (update based on owner reply: the fees are there on the web page, just not overly apparent...especially for something as basic as parking) The biggest issue for people might be the noise....not an issue for me, but yes you will hear trains all night (and I mean all night) that also blow their horns all the time (one evening one must have blown the horn every 100ft). Not sure why they have to do that so much. And then the traffic noise in the morning. It is not a quiet location/rooms. You can also hear your neighbors to some degree.

My husband and I had our reception here in December of 2023, we have nothing but great things to say. Not only was every single person accommodating and kind during the planning process(first time bride and had all the questions) they also made the event stress free. The day before the event they graciously upgraded us to a larger space because a dance floor was important to us and not something I thought about asking prior to booking. Special shoutout to our bartender, he was 10/10, so funny, and grooved with us while we celebrated! The food was amazing as well, was hot and cooked perfectly. The terrace was beautiful and while it was windy on the night of our wedding, we still went out there to enjoy the views. We had the best time of our lives celebrating with friends and family. We would absolutely recommend hotel Melby to anyone looking to host an event.

Hotel staff was rude. Rooftop bar staff was also rude. Be prepared to stand if you go to the rooftop bar and only order drinks as they will tell you, you can only sit on the terrace if you order food as well as drinks. Sheets were not changed in the room once on our 4 night stay. Nothing was replenished by housekeeping either. Concrete walls and ceilings makes the hotel look super cheap and the rooms have no insulation so you can hear everything outside and people walking above you. Beds are hard and uncomfortable. Shower has barely any water pressure so be prepared to shower in a trickle. When the AC cuts on in the room it will wake you up out of a dead sleep sounding like an airplane starting up. Overall stay was miserable. Paid $200 a night for a $50 a night experience. A roach motel would have been about the same quality and a fraction of the price. Only good things about this hotel were the location and the valet staff. The valet staff were on it and would have you your car in five minutes or less so you can run away from the monstrosity that is The Hotel Melby!

Recently stayed here for a work trip and generally had a pleasant experience - however, be warned that if you're trying to get *any* sleep while you're here then that could be a challenge. I was on a higher floor and consistently laid awake listening to a nearby trains blow their horns while passing for what seemed to be every hour throughout the night. If I wasn't listening to a train horn, I could easily hear nearby bars playing music until they closed in the early hours. That not enough for you? Perhaps you'll be interested in laying awake listening to the traffic below your window - particularly the parade of motorcycles that seem to just drive around and around downtown Melbourne as a group with nothing better to do at 1am. While this isn't directly an issue I have with the hotel, short of suggesting that Hotel Melby replace their windows with thicker glass, I do think it is worth noting before booking.
